CHATEAU NEERCANNE

DO YOU DRINK YOUR GIN TONIC SUSTAINABLY AND RESPONSIBLY THIS LAST MONTH OF SUMMER?

Since August 2022, Chateau Neercanne has also been using compostable PLQ straws made from wheat straw stalks and lignocellulose. By throwing the product in the garden after use, it becomes a nutrient for the, in this case, the Dutch soil. By throwing it in the organic waste bin, it is industrially composted and ends up as a nutrient source for the farmer and their crop. The product can therefore degrade both naturally and industrially. Handy if you have your own nursery garden, just like Chateau Neercanne!

CYCLUPS is currently in the certification phase of the PLQ straws to finally be able to officially make the home compostibility claim. Which means that the product breaks down completely naturally in nature within 12 months by means of bacteria and enzymes. In contrast to biodegradable products that are not time-bound and sometimes take 5-10 years until the entire product has actually broken down naturally, take a paper straw or wooden cutlery as an example.

Without our renowned and trusted production partner Meldon in Nieuw-Bergen, none of this would have been possible in such a short time. Over the past 6 months, CYCLUPS and Meldon have worked hard to establish a stable process. The goal is to scale up as quickly as possible to meet global demand.

We can’t wait to make the claim official, although it’s a long process. Of course CYCLUPS REAL straws are completely naturally degradable and both home and industrial compostable because they come from nature!

Stay tuned for more exciting news!
